MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Theraplex Company, the makers of a full line of dermatologist endorsed moisturizers especially created to treat a range of dry skin conditions, is launching its 2008 "Prepare to Unveil Yourself" initiative with expert tips and advice for healthy looking and beautiful skin. Four Theraplex(R) solutions: HydroLotion, ClearLotion, Emollient, and Theraplex FT Exfoliating Emollient are formulated to help women, men and children prepare their faces and bodies, including hands and feet, for the warmer months ahead. Recommended by dermatologists for over 15 years, the Theraplex line uses a non-greasy, enriched petrolatum fraction (EPF) derived from petroleum jelly to provide long lasting hydration and seal the skin's barrier layer from excessive moisture loss. To order, visit http://www.Theraplex.com, call toll-free at 1-888-437-2753, or ask your dermatologist, podiatrist or pharmacist.

The Theraplex "Prepare to Unveil Yourself" initiative provides tips from the pros on how to prevent dry, scaly winter skin from extending its stay into the spring and summer months. With short sleeves, sandals and bare legs taking over, expert advice from dermatologists and skin care gurus can help consumers unveil with confidence.

Tip #1 Face: Using a light and effective moisturizer is an easy way to hydrate skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

"When skin is dry, wrinkles and lines are more apparent," says Rachel Plant, Theraplex Director of Product Development. "By using Theraplex HydroLotion, women and men can ward off dryness and keep skin smooth and soft. HydroLotion is noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic and fragrance-free, making it a perfect base for the application of makeup and the ideal post-shave moisturizer for men."

Tip #2 Hands: For dry, chapped hands and cuticles, an intense spot treatment can help repair and soften skin.

"Theraplex Emollient contains the highest concentration of enriched petrolatum fraction (EPF) for maximum effectiveness without irritation," says Robert J. Kaplan, M.D., Board Certified Dermatologist in Memphis, Tennessee. "It's great for softening and moisturizing severely dry areas like dry, cracked hands, cuticles and chapped lips. Theraplex HydroLotion for daily maintenance helps to protect skin and prevent severe dryness from recurring."

Tip #3 Body: Moisturize immediately after showering or bathing to replace essential moisture.

"When Theraplex ClearLotion is applied to wet skin immediately after showering or bathing, the activated hydrosilicone system draws moisture on the surface deep into the skin to help hydrate dry skin. Essential oils replace the moisture lost during the bathing process and create a protective barrier which holds moisture in and provides long lasting, continuous hydration," says Jose Parron, New York-based Image Consultant.

Tip #4 Feet: For dry, cracked heels and rough callused feet, a moisturizer with a gentle exfoliating emollient will smooth out rough spots and reveal smooth, soft feet.

"Many individuals suffer from dry, cracked heels and rough callused feet," says Dr. Eric Hubbard, Board Certified Podiatrist. "Theraplex FT Exfoliating Emollient, with beta hydroxy acid, moisturizes dry, cracked feet while gently exfoliating rough, dead dry skin."

The history of the formulation

Physicians have long recognized that petrolatum (or petroleum jelly) is one of the most effective moisturizers and skin barriers available. However, its unpleasant greasiness made it an undesirable treatment. That was, until 1990, when a Swiss research scientist, Dr. H.R. Suess, discovered a way to eliminate the greasiness associated with petrolatum while maintaining its superior moisturizing and skin protection properties.

Working with a European laboratory, Dr. Suess patented a process to remove the greasy oils and create an enriched petrolatum fraction that was combined with a unique activated hydrosilicone delivery system, creating Theraplex, "the medical moisturizer." The activated hydrosilicone delivers the EPF deep into the cracks and fissures of the skin to provide long lasting hydration and protection and to help prevent moisture loss.

"For years, we have worked hand-in-hand with dermatologists, podiatrists and other physicians to develop clinically effective solutions to treat the range of dry skin problems," said Mike Pietrangelo, Theraplex Managing Director. "We are committed to making these products directly available to consumers through dermatologists, podiatrists, and pharmacists. Many retail and independent pharmacy chains offer Theraplex behind the pharmacy counter. Consumers just need to ask the pharmacist for the products. They can also order through our website or call our toll-free number."
