RARITAN, N.J., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for summer, celebrity stylist and Style Network personality Bobbie Thomas has joined together with Ortho Women's Health & Urology, makers of ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN(R) LO (norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol), to launch The LO-DOWN on Wearing White, designed to help women wear this season's "in" color with confidence. Details about this free educational program and sweepstakes can be found at http://www.thepill.com.

While fashionistas agree that white is hot, wearing it can be daunting for many women. In fact, according to a recent survey of women aged 18 to 24, nearly 55 percent said they are not very comfortable wearing white. Style expert Thomas points to common body-confidence and unexpected "time of the month" issues as factors that cause anxiety about wearing white. Think white makes you look heavier? Feeling pale or washed out? Concerned about see-through? With a little help, Thomas says virtually every woman can wear white with confidence. "The LO-DOWN on Wearing White offers information on how to banish 'white fright,' including tips for putting together a perfect white wardrobe and wearing it with confidence," said Thomas. For a free fashion tip sheet from Thomas, plus a chance to win a designer white outfit personally selected for one winner and her friend, visit http://www.thepill.com.

Lack of confidence in wearing white can be related to unpredictable "female-related" accidents, especially among women taking birth control pills. Breakthrough bleeding, or irregular or unexpected bleeding between periods, is a side effect of taking the Pill, especially newer low-dose and extended- regimen oral contraceptives.

Eighty percent of women surveyed agreed that this concern could cause reluctance to wear white. In fact, unexpected, between-period bleeding was a concern for 60 percent of women, and 45 percent said that they have actually avoided wearing white or other light-colored clothing altogether because of the possibility of breakthrough bleeding.

"For many women, one of the benefits of taking the Pill is better cycle control and lighter periods," explained women's health expert Valerie Schulz, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. "Therefore, unexpected or unpredictable bleeding between periods, which most commonly occurs in the first few months of taking a new pill, can be an unpleasant and embarrassing surprise." According to Dr. Schulz, for women concerned about breakthrough bleeding, it's important to know that the incidence of breakthrough bleeding varies across different birth control pills and by individual. For example, for women interested in low-dose pills, ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO, with a six-year track record of clinical use, has demonstrated excellent cycle control and a low incidence of breakthrough bleeding in a clinical study.

Available at thepill.com, The LO-DOWN on Wearing White program offers women a variety of resources to help reduce their "wear-white" anxiety. These include the fashion tip sheet from Bobbie Thomas, as well as information about the birth control pill and breakthrough bleeding. Women can also enter a free sweepstakes to win a designer white outfit, selected by Thomas, for themselves and a friend. No Purchase Necessary. Open to female legal residents of the United States, 18 years of age or older. Void where prohibited. For Official Rules visit, http://www.thepill.com and click on the Sweepstakes link.
