A new six-minute video each week greets visitors. There are also links to supporting information (for example, a two-part wine series featured a link to all the wines featured, as well as suggested food pairings). This week's episode features Holiday Gift Ideas. Up next is an easy, impressive New Year's Eve menu. Each month, producer/host Susan Doherty unleashes a special segment dedicated to products, goods and services she "just loves." Dubbed "Six Must Haves in Six Minutes," the episode also gives viewers a chance to get involved and win, as Doherty puts it, "some cool stuff." Viewers can click on a link to share their own ideas for Must Haves; if an item is selected, that viewer receives a gift basket full of all the other goodies showcased in the episode. For Doherty, "Six Must Haves" is all about community building. "I value my friends' opinions when I'm looking for new products," she says. "This is the same idea, just on a larger scale." Travel is another big part of the site. A click on the Travel header leads visitors to various destinations with tips on where to stay, what to do, and what to see. Doherty rounds out the articles with photos, restaurant reviews, and quick links to other sites. Current travel destinations include Seattle, Washington and Prague, Czech Republic. In the coming months, she plans to profile San Francisco, Southern Maine, and Venice, Italy. "Ideally, we'll be filming on location in the near future and running six-minute travel videos to support the articles," says Doherty. A big fan of throwing and hosting parties and traveling "as often as possible," Doherty created the program and Web site in response to her own busy life. "I didn't always have time to sit down and read a magazine or watch a full 30- to 60-minute lifestyle or travel show," she says. "Six Minute Style is an indulgence, without the guilt or time constraints, anytime you please." To keep things fresh, Doherty draws from her varied career path to find inspiration. "For years, I worked as a freelance writer, marketing consultant and producer/director/actor," she explains. "All of which is a fancy way of saying I've waited tables, bartended and organized events for numerous restaurants and caterers, picking up tips and secrets along the way. Now, I get to share them."
