(NewsUSA) - While enduring a typical day in the office, there may be times when you have suddenly become bothered by overwhelming fatigue, had an unexplainable, dry cough or spells of dizziness that seem to occur for no particular reason. The experience may leave you thinking you're coming down with a bad case of the flu -; until you leave your building and begin to feel better immediately. This type of problem, known as Sick Building Syndrome, is nothing new in the workplace, although it is garnering more attention than ever before.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Sick Building Syndrome -; or SBS -; is categorized as situations in which building occupants experience acute health and comfort effects that appear to be linked to time spent in a building, but no specific illness or cause can be identified. The problem may be more widespread than many may realize and may affect more than just your health. Productivity losses from SBS are estimated to cost employers an average of $50 billion annually, proving that taking the initiative to protect against and solve building-related illnesses is a high priority for any office environment.

While there is no perfect way to win the war against SBS, finding and killing the contaminants at their indoor source, such as in mold-tainted ventilation systems, is the most successful way to have a healthy work environment. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), 30 percent of non-industrial buildings have indoor air quality problems. To combat this issue, one company, Red Reef Laboratories, has released a family of products dubbed BioClear, which can help eliminate organisms that cause SBS.

"Our line of BioClear products targets contaminants that can frequently cause symptomatic problems referred to as Sick Building Syndrome," said Dr. Claus Wagner-Bartak, president of Red Reef Laboratories. "By killing toxic mold and other kinds of indoor pollution with BioClear, building owners, employers and employees can be confident that their work environment is truly a healthy one."
