WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- In a world of online dating, demanding work schedules and unsavory suitors, singles are finding that distinguishing potential romance from regrettable evenings is no simple task. But a recent survey by the Aluminum Can Council helps separate the good, the bad and the less-than-pretty. Forget about the size of his hands, her tattoos, how he dresses or the way she dances. Whether you're seeking lifelong passion or just an evening of fun, just look at what your date is drinking. Step One - Identifying Your Potential Match Get your foot in the door by seeking out the most approachable members of the opposite sex. Canned beer drinkers and those who opt for a mix of alcohol and canned energy drinks describe their romantic demeanor as "friendly and open" (77 percent and 70 percent, respectively). Men and women who prefer energy drinks are the most likely to define themselves as "super sexy" (11 percent) or "smooth as silk" (12 percent). In fact, if you think the energy drink type is your type, just sit patiently. They'll be more likely to approach you with a confidence and charm that will sweep you off your feet. Wine drinkers are typically white-collar women that are the "ultimate hostess." Those suave, sophisticated folks drinking things like scotch and tonic mixes are typically white-collar divorcees who consider themselves friendly, open and super sexy. Bottled beer drinkers tend to be more open to the idea of committed relationships, and have a social personality. As for those sheepish souls in the corner drinking water or a virgin daiquiri, looking as though they meant to go to the library but made a wrong turn - tread lightly. Non-alcoholic beverage drinkers are often widows or widowers, with teenage children and thirteen percent report they are "cold as ice" romantically or "aren't sure" as to their love personality. If you can't spot the drink in his or her hand, observe how he or she is acting. The canned beer drinker (36 percent), the energy drink drinker (38 percent), and wine drinker (34 percent) describe themselves as the life of the party. So, scan bar tops, tables, the dance floor and other areas where liveliness occurs to identify these individuals. Step Two - The Serendipitous Meeting Once you've identified someone you think might be a good match, introduce yourself. But for as much as you scrutinize them, remember, they'll be doing the same to you. Canned beer, energy drink and wine drinkers are most turned off by a number of unfortunate fashion, personality and grooming mishaps: - Body odor, bad breath and flatulence top the charts for nearly everyone. - Self-absorption and "being a leech" are among the chief personality no-nos, the survey reveals, along with lame pick-up lines and bad dancing. - Other top turnoffs include "muffin tops" (too-tight pants that leave the mid-section looking like a muffin top), mullet hairstyles, pleated pants and men who wear ties with short-sleeve shirts. Step Three - Say Good Bye, or Good Morning? The night is coming to a close. Or, is it? Knowing what to expect will save you that dreaded awkward moment at the end of the night. Again, just think of the drink. - If he or she is drinking water, the date is likely to end with a firm handshake or a peck on the cheek. If you had fun, suggest a second date. - If he or she is drinking a bottled beer or wine, you can expect a more passionate kiss. - If he or she is drinking an energy drink, you might be invited for a nightcap. - If he or she is drinking a canned beer, breakfast in bed may be on the menu! The "Beverage and Romantic Personality Survey" was commissioned by the Aluminum Can Council and conducted by Opinion Research Corp. The survey was administered via telephone in June 2006 to a nationally representative sample of 952 adults at least 21 years of age.
