Home > Beauty & Fashion Articles New Year’s Resolution: Five Ways to be Fashionable for Less
Today, celebrities are the biggest fashion billboards in media. Basically it’s, whatever celebrities wear, we want to wear too. We have all seen our favorite celebrities dressed in hot designer clothing and said one of two things: (a) “What ever possessed them to wear that?” Or (b) “Wow, I love that! I wish I knew where to buy it.” The latter of the two is usually followed by "If I could only afford it!” There are a multitude of outfits out there that cost literally thousands of dollars. One could end up spending tens of thousands on a wardrobe that is ultimately short lived. However that outfit that you love and that wardrobe you dream of can be obtainable for a fraction of the cost - if you know how to be fashionable for less. These five tips will help you be as stylish as the celebrities on T.V. while spending less money: 1. Buy pieces that you can carry over from one season to the next. For instance, a great structured jacket can be fashionable all through the year, and if you pair it with stylish tops from each season you will look great all year! Also, everyone knows a great pair of jeans will last you years, so go out on a limb and purchase those $100 jeans, but make sure you keep them for a while so they are worth the money. 2. Accessorize! A fabulous purse or a cool ring can spice up any outfit in a flash. However you don’t have to go to Coach or Gucci to stay in style! Buy a cute look-alike for a fraction of the price and use it all season long. A great place to visit if you want to find less expensive alternatives is http://www.like.com/. Also, you don’t have to have a diamond necklace or a crystal bracelet to look beautiful and trendy. Take a trip to Macy’s or JCPenny and you can find the same things you see at Tiffany for a ton less. The best part this is that nobody can tell the difference and you still look fabulous! 3. Create new tone with a different makeup combo. Yes, you can wear the same outfit twice- as long as it’s not during the same week and as long as you change up your make-up! The next time you wear an outfit twice, instead of doing your standard make-up routine, switch the colors around and create a whole new feel to your look. Using different colors while wearing something you’ve already worn can make the outfit seem brand new! 4. Try a new hairstyle! Putting a new hairstyle with an outfit will give it a whole different feel and save you from making a trip to the store for something else to wear. You can also switch up your accessories and give each outfit a much longer life. 5. Purchase only a few expensive items and mix them with your old favorites. Let’s face it; you know you have a skirt in your closet that you just can’t throw away because it looks so great on you. Although you think you can’t wear it because it went out of style last season. Great news, you thought wrong! Pairing that old skirt with a trendy top and some sexy earrings will give it new life and make it totally wearable- that is until you finally spill something on it! Keep your oldies but goodies until you’ve worn the thread out of them - If it looks great on you, don’t throw it out! Flaunt it for a while; confidence is in this season. The main things to remember while you’re shopping this year are to buy pieces that will last all year, accessorize your outfits with cheaper look-alikes, and mix your old pieces with new ones from this season. In addition, try new hairstyles or make-up combos to give new life to your look. Evaluate your purchases and decide if they are worth the money you spend on them. If you remember these helpful tips this year, you will always look great for less!
