Los Angeles, Calif., March 12 , 2009 – Designer/stylist Margi Kent, the woman who helped define the much imitated ethereal and romantic style of rock legend Stevie Nicks, once again reunites with this style icon for Fleetwood Mac's 2009 World Tour. The Los Angeles-based Kent, who has served as fashion designer and personal stylist for A-list Hollywood and music personalities including Meryl Streep, Demi Moore, Mariah Carey, Brooke Shields, Kim Cattrall, Teri Hatcher, Gladys Knight, Neil Diamond, Don Henley and the late Beatle George Harrison will also re-enter the high-end retail market with a Fall 2009 collection, which is slated to be previewed to fashion editors and select buyers in New York City in mid-April. Kent's history with Nicks goes back to the 1977 world tour supporting Fleetwood Mac's record-breaking Rumours album. Working closely with the artist, Kent created a fashion art statement that helped crystallize the image of this powerful performing icon. Kent's custom-designed pieces for Nicks blend vintage, mystical, bohemian chic and gothic styles to provide a dramatic accent and visual resonance to her spirited stage movements. A series of opulent shawls, scarves, diaphanous skirts, hats and layers of chiffon are employed to swirl around the star as she works the stage. Kent has also brought more stage focus to the petite star by outfitting her in 6-inch suede platform boots in a variety of colors, which have since become a fashion staple for rockers and fashionistas alike. This fashion formula has been so thoroughly embraced that one of these classic ensembles is now in the collection of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Other noted designers like Anna Sui, Issac Mizrahi and Sadie Frost have been quoted as taking inspiration the classic "California rock" style Kent developed for Stevie, along with a litany of female musicians, including Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow and Vanessa Carlton. Kent's designs for the 2009 tour provide new energy, imagination and variations to Nicks' iconic fashion formula, represented in a new selection of exotic textured fabrics and a fresh color palate. According to GQ Magazine, Kent's ability to diagnose and cure stage fashion problems has earned her the nickname "the Rock N' Roll Doctor." Kent recently created a restrained and sophisticated new image for ageless musical icon Neil Diamond, inspired by the deconstructed, back-to-basics sound of his recent album, Home Before Dark. The artfully subdued look was showcased to critical acclaim on Diamond's 2008 tour and onstage at this year's Grammy Awards. "Stars must stay true to themselves and wear things that express who they are, while keeping a silhouette that fits their body type," states Kent. "They should never let the clothes wear them. It's important to acknowledge the current trends, but do not give in completely. The end result is an image that is classic, individual and therefore timeless." Over the last decade, Kent has focused her operation on servicing a more custom and select clientele, largely Hollywood and music industry notables, both stars and those behind-the-scenes, with one-of-a-kind pieces and across-the-board personal styling services. The romantic approach demonstrated in her work with Nicks has also lead to a burgeoning business in custom bridal wear, cocktail and evening gowns. Kent and her staff have also lent their design and styling talents to a variety of high-profile films, music videos and television ventures. "Pulling back from large retailers for a time has allowed me to explore what I love best, fashion as conceptual art and to create couture pieces in a studio setting," adds Kent. "The new sensibility forged during this period will have a major impact on our upcoming collection." Kent's Fall 2009 offerings will cover the gamut of day-to-evening wear, including jackets, dresses, suits, cocktail and bridal wear informed by the designer's love of conceptual art, sculpture and architecture. The collection will be unveiled to fashion editors and buyers at an upcoming event in New York City in mid-April 2009. Margi Kent Studios is headquartered in Beverly Hills, California.
