Celebrity Fragrance Designer Harry Slatkin Offers His Tips for the Season

BRADFORD, Pa., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The holiday season is a feast for the senses. The chill of snow in the air, the spectacle of glittering lights, the flavors of treasured seasonal recipes and the sounds of voices singing traditional songs all add excitement to the season. However, according to Harry Slatkin, fragrance designer to the stars, the most powerful and fashionable way to set the stage for holiday spirit in the home is through warm, opulent scents.

He should know. The founder of Slatkin & Co., a high-end candle maker, and the head of Limited Brands' home fragrance business, Harry Slatkin, has been dubbed the "king of home fragrance" by The New York Times, created custom fragrances for the likes of Elton John and Martha Stewart, and revolutionized the candle business by emphasizing their luxury and indulgence. His five tips for a perfect holiday home:

1. "When it comes to holidays, I am all about tradition, powered up with
a little fun." Magical holidays are all about a roaring fire in the
living room and a dusting of snow outside. Gravitate toward scents that
bring those images to life and enhance the holiday mood such as
cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and spice.
2. "Two of my favorite candle scents this year are Spice and Frosted
Cranberry. They have a warm, inviting fragrance and the colors and
designs say Happy Holidays!" While smells are important, candles should
also look festive to truly set the stage for entertaining.
3. "Even as a candle expert, I fumbled for years to properly light my
candles." A lighter should be functional but also as sleek and
fashionable as the rest of your home. That is why Harry Slatkin
personally worked with Zippo to design Mini Multi-Purpose Lighters in
the chic, modern hues that coordinate with his holiday fragrance
collection -- Hi-Polish Chrome, Red and Slatkin White.
4. "Mix it up, have fun with fragrance and keep your guests guessing,"
especially during the holidays, with Spice candles in the front hall, a
Winter scent in the living room, and Frosted Cranberry in the dining
room. Scents should fill the house and give each room an enchanting
ambience. When the scents from each room begin to combine, the magic
really starts to happen.
5. In order to select the perfect fragrance for a gathering, dream up a
fantasy dinner party or reminisce about family holiday celebrations.
Remembering the scents that have made you happy will help to set the
stage for future holiday memories.

Finally, when selecting fragrances worthy of Harry Slatkin's discriminating nose remember this -- "Don't take it all too seriously, just relax and enjoy." Slatkin & Co. holiday candles and the Zippo special edition Mini Multi-Purpose Lighters are available this holiday season exclusively at Bath & Body Works stores nationwide.
