Arranged Flowers Continue to be a Staple for Mother's Day

KENT, Ohio, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- We love mom. We send her more flowers than any other person. A recent study revealed that more flowers are sent on Mother's Day than on any other event or occasion. In fact more than on 24 events and occasions combined.

A study commissioned by Smithers-Oasis North America/OASIS(R) Floral Products, the world's leading manufacturer of floral foam and accessories for florists, indicates that more than 63 percent of households purchase flowers for Mother's Day.

"As individuals become more mobile and live further apart from their loved ones, flowers are a means of staying connected in a very loving way," said Jacque Sir Louis marketing manager for Smithers-Oasis. "Generations have given Mom flowers and the trend shows no sign of slowing," he said.

Who sends the most flowers?

-- The Northeast and South Atlantic regions show the highest level of
Mother's Day purchasing while the North Central (Mid-West) shows the
lowest.
-- The two strongest floral-purchasing age brackets for Mother's Day are
ages 35 to 44, with three-fourths of households purchasing Mother's Day
floral; followed by the 45 to 54 year old age bracket.

"We realize there are moms in their twenties who may want something slightly different than the traditional flower arrangement," reminds OASIS(R) Design Director Kevin Ylvisaker, AIFD, PFCI.
