"Fall fashion is about giving a modern twist on the classics. This season there is a focus on different proportions and layering the clothing. It's about being more covered up and understated and dressing for function and comfort," Baume says. She adds, "The runways tipped their hat to youth culture -- and teens have responded. No one can wear the looks of this season -- layering, skinny pants and mini skirts -- quite like teenagers can." Baume lists five key pieces for a teenager's fall fashion wardrobe: 1) The Skinny Pant -- The skinny pant and jean are back -- slim fitting and great with the layered look. Pair them with great flats or ankle boots and layer with slim fitting sweaters. 2) The Mini -- The mini skirt is a key trend for fall. It was a runway favorite this season. Preppy plaid or rich brocade, the mini skirt is a great way to show off your legs. But don't forget to wear tights and leggings. This season -- bare legs are out. 3) The Chunky Turtleneck -- The thick and cozy sweater is back. Whether layered underneath dresses or over t-shirts, it's the perfect item to compliment your back to school wardrobe. 4) The Jumper Dress -- The jumper dress creates a cute school girl look. This easy one piece can be layered with shirts or turtlenecks or even over a skinny pant or tights. 5) The Jumbo Bag -- Gone are the days of messenger bags and classic double-shouldered backpacks. What a girl really wants is an oversized bag that can fit all of her essentials. The jumbo bag can be toted throughout the day and carried on into the night. Related Articles
