Bibhu Mohapatra Heads to India for Research, Inspiration for the Next Mendel Collection

Bibhu Mohapatra, Design Director for J. Mendel in New York is taking a long over due Holiday in India where he will do extensive research for his next New York collection.

(PRWEB) February 20, 2007 -- Bibhu Mohapatra has been designing for J Mendel in New York for 8 years.

He has been the Design Director for 5 years.

In the five years he has been the Director he has completely transformed the entire look and style of the Label. He has taken the label, well known mostly for classic fur, to a dizzying level of exclusivity and chic couture fashion. His designs are worn by models, socialites, and stars of stage, screen and Music, on and off the red carpet.

Mohapatra will be traveling in India for about a month beginning February 23rd in Delhi.
He will then travel to his home state of Orissa, then to Calcutta and finally to Mumbai before returning to Paris and then to Tampa for the wedding of a valued private client.

The client is Allison Beard, an Equestrian Star from Florida.
Miss. Beard wears designs made by Mohapatra under the label, "Bibhu"
Bibhu created this equestrian champion's beautiful wedding gown over the last year while designing 4 collections for his full time employer.

The Bride will wear 20 yards of hand loomed Japanese silk in powdered ivory, 100 yards of hand dyed silk tulle sprinkled with thousands of hand embroidered silk poppy flowers for the royal veil. The under layers of the gown trimmed with encrusted caviar beading of smoked quartz and semi precious stones in an ancient Indian Zardosi technique, peaking through the arched hemline of the dress which rests on a structured underskirt made with hand pleated silk tulle and tea stained silk mousseline. All done by artisans of three different beading salons in India and Lasage of Paris. The final creation put together in New York.

During his short career, the talented Mohapatra has designed clothes for Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Julian Moore, Eve, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Salma Hayak, Mandy Moore, Gwen Stefani and Angelina Jolie, Kate Hudson, Britney Spears, Jessica Lange, Melania Trump, Halle Berry, Julian Moore, Kate Blanchett, Terry Hatcher, Laura Linney, The line he designs has been featured in every major fashion magazine, Vogue, Harpers, Elle, In style, Nirali Magazine, WWD, the Times of India, India Times, Town & Country.

Mohapatra has little extra time, but when he has a bit of time he likes to draw his inspiration from his travels to new and exotic lands. Between collections he has recently been to Turkey, South Africa, France, Morocco, and Ireland. As a native, his greatest inspiration always comes from his trips to India. He finds patterns, fabrics and colors one simply does not find any where, much less in New York.
