(NewsUSA) - Nearly half of American women agree that their homes are not as clean as they would like, with their bedrooms ranking among the dirtiest rooms, according to a recent national survey conducted by home cleaning provider Merry Maids among women 18 and over.

The professionals at Merry Maids offer the following simple cleaning suggestions to take your personal sleeping quarters from dreary to clean and inviting:

* Clear the clutter. If you can't put it away, it's clutter. So divide it into three groups: junk, charity and undecided. Toss the first, give away the second and store the third in a box or bag until you can decide whether it's really worth keeping.

* Rid your room of dust with microfiber. Microfiber works well for trapping and removing dust rather than just moving it around.

Use microfiber cloths on mop heads for tasks such as dusting hard-surface floors. For mirrors, secure two microfiber cleaning cloths. Dampen one to get dirt off and follow up with a dry one to shine to perfection.

When microfiber cloths become soiled, simply drop them in the washer and hang to dry. Do not use fabric softener with microfiber as it will damage its cleaning capabilities.

* Vacuum more than just the floors. Vacuum and dust mop regularly to prevent dirt from building up and damaging the surface.

Use a vacuum cleaner with dust brush attachments to clean cloth items such as lampshades or valances. Vacuum your mattresses and box springs at least twice a year.

Keep your vacuum well maintained. Check bags and seals to prevent dust from blowing back into the air.
