NEW YORK, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- In the 15 years since Allure launched, beauty sales have grown to $33.5 billion, and the number of new products introduced in one year has more than tripled to nearly 8,000. Women would have to try a new product every 66 minutes for 365 days to know their merits -- making Allure's 11th annual Best of Beauty issue more important than ever.

The 2006 Allure Best of Beauty winners include products for eyes, lips, hair, skin, and body that deliver results, are convenient, and have that extra something wonderful that keep you going back. This year, Allure editors tested more than 2,100 products, and approximately 10,000 readers voted on the best beauty products.

The October issue also highlights breakthroughs that set new standards for innovation to solve old problems. Here's a complete list of this year's breakthroughs, as determined by the editors of Allure:

Neutrogena Sunscreens with Helioplex: This new sunscreen contains a complex called Helioplex, which helps save skin from UVA rays for twice as long as traditional sunscreens. The company tested the new product by applying it to panes of glass. After six hours, no UV light came through.

Estee Lauder Perfectionist Power Correcting Patch: Women no longer have to wait 48 hours to see results of their skin-care products. This clever patch deposits water into the skin under the eyes, immediately reducing fine lines for up to a day.

SK-II AirTouch Foundation: This breakthrough utilizes a unique spray formula that produces a fine mist of foundation, requires no blending, and looks completely natural on skin.

Olay Definity Correcting Protective Lotion with SPF 15: This lotion evens out the complexion-without irritation. In a company study, the cream reduced skin discoloration such as dullness and age spots by up to 78 percent in eight weeks.

Remergent DNA Repair Formula: Remergent's new serum contains three patented DNA-fixing enzymes that reverse sun damage by accelerating the body's own repair of cells affected by UV rays.

Cover Girl LashExact Mascara: This new Cover Girl mascara utilizes a plastic wand with pliable bristles that are strategically spaced to coat each and every lash. No more clumping.

Clean & Clear Advantage Invisible Acne Patch: This new patch contains a key ingredient, chitosan PCA, that smoothes out the raised bump, making the blemish appear smaller in three minutes.

Infiniti Hair Designer by Conair: Conair's new dryer combines all the tools you need in one-a round brush, blow-dryer, and flatiron-providing sleeker results in less time and with less damage to hair.

OPI ProWide Nail Brush: OPI's new brush with flattened bristles fans into a wide, straight line, depositing more polish more smoothly as it passes over the nail. This breakthrough makes uniform application much more likely-even for butterfingers.

Clairol Natural Instincts Shine Happy and Clairol Nice 'n Easy Color Boosting Glaze: These two breakthroughs help extend women's time between salon color appointments. Shine Happy brightens color and the Color Boosting Glaze deposits pigment on the outer layer of the hair to fill in fading, while conditioners add shine.

Allure is the only women's magazine dedicated to beauty and is read monthly by nearly 5 million American women interested in the news, trends, and facts about cosmetics, fragrance, skin and hair care, and how they impact a woman's image.
